The National Grid will test a new scheme where users could be paid to cut electricity use. These measures are to help avoid blackouts. This comes as temperatures plummeted to almost -10C in parts of UK. Energy consumption has shot up. As a result, electricity supply margins are expected to be tighter than normal. The “demand flexibility service” will run between 5pm and 6pm on Monday evening. The National Grid clarified energy supplies aren’t at risk, people needn’t worry.
