Denmark announces compulsory military service for women too | DW News
For the first time ever, Denmark plans to draft both men and women into military service. It’s only the third European country to do so, after Norway and Sweden.
Beginning in 2026, the government wants to call up 5,000 co-ed conscripts a year. In addition, basic military service is to be extended from four to eleven months. The government says the decisions are in reaction to the war in Ukraine and the Russian threat in Western Europe’s backyard.
